Winter Haven Chain 1-24-2015

Winter Haven Chain

1-24-2015

Welcome to the 2015 SPPB tournament season!

Our first tournament of 2015 turned out to be a crazy weather day with winds  of 20 to 30 mph, rain and chilly to getting colder throughout the day. 9 teams including a new team showed up to brave these conditions to kick off the season. I would like to welcome Troy Smith and Adam Jameson to the club who had to fish without a trolling motor since their prop was either lost or the pin broke? They had called and texted to see if they could get out of the boat and go get the part they needed? I informed them they could not and that we have all had to fish under similar circumstances. We also had three subs fish with us. Godwin fished with Darrell, Brent fished with Eric,  Chris fished with Rob and Mark fish with with Josh. For the conditions we had there were lots of bass caught, just lots of under sized but everyone brought bass to the scales including three limits.

First Place with 5 bass weighing 13.63 lbs goes to Joe and Greg

Second Place with 4 bass weighing 9.15 lbs goes to Troy and Adam

Third Place with 3 bass weighing 8.08 lbs goes to Darrell and Godwin

Big Bass weighing 4.64 lbs goes to Joe and Greg

50/50 winner goes to Troy.

Congrats to all!

Hope to see all at the next tournament.

Crooked Lake 11-15-14

Crooked Lake

11-15-14

Welcome back Darrell ! It was nice to see you back fishing with us and I know the rest of us also were glad to see you. On this last tournament of 2014 6 teams showed up to fish. Joe and Greg actually pre-fished Friday since all the pressure was on them to stay in first place and hopefully take AOTY for 2014. With Mike and Steve 11 points behind it would have taken Mike and Steve to place high in the win column and have a big bass and for Joe and Greg to place low in the win column. Well Joe and Greg placed low in the win column, but Mike and Steve placed lower. So it is my pleasure to congratulate Joe and Greg for winning AOTY for the 2014 season! Funny thing happened during our meeting, Joe informed me after all the years of fishing together I have been misspelling his name. And now that he is getting a plaque he decided it was the proper time so I would not have it wrong on his plaque.

First Place with 5 bass weighing 9.62 lbs goes to Malcolm and Josh

Second Place with 3 bass weighing 5.19 lbs goes to Scott and Dick

Third Place with 2 bass weighing 4.53 lbs goes to Darrell and Jason

Big Bass weighing 2.69 lbs goes to Darrell and Jason

50/50 winner goes to Greg.       We raised $285.00 for the Classic after starting it late in the season.

We had our end of year meeting to review, discuss and vote on anything anyone wanted to vote on. We also picked the lakes for 2015 which will be posted on the website. It was brought to a motion that SPPB start enforcing the Classic Rules which have been in place since day 1, starting in 2015. It was voted for starting in 2015. We made an adjustment on the qualification number as follows. If there are 10 scheduled tournaments you must participate in 7 tournaments to qualify for the classic. If there are 11 tournaments you must participate in 8 tournaments to qualify for the classic. There are exemptions which are on the  Classic Rule page. Next on the membership rules we voted to eliminate rule # 7.

At this time I would like to say Thank You to Steve, Darrell and Jason for their continued help with SPPB and to all the members who have also helped with our club. Hope everyone has a great holiday season and I am already looking forward to the 2015 season.

Lake Istokpoga 10-25-14

Lake Istokpoga

10-25-14

Welcome to the Dick and Scott Show! Just goes to show you when you are at the right place at the right time the fishing can be great. For the rest of us it was so so. Who would have ever thought on Istokpoga only one team would have a limit? And 4 out of the 8 teams zeroed, including the first place team. And the other first place team did not show?

Darrell is doing much better and promised to be back for the last tournament. Jason fished with his better half Nicole who had her first taste of tournament fishing and enjoying this very nice fall day. Too bad the bite was slow. Joe fished with sub Brandon and John fished with Bill as his sub.

First Place with 5 bass weighing 22.60 lbs goes to Scott and Dick

Second Place with 4 bass weighing 9.10 lbs goes to Gary and Eric

Third Place with 3 bass weighing 7.09 lbs goes to John and Bill

Big Bass weighing 6.92 lbs goes to Scott and Dick

50/50 winner goes to Mike which went to Steve since Mike forgot to put gas cap back on boat. Yes you know what happened once we started driving.

Next and last tournament of the 2014 tournament season is Crooked Lake at Bob’s Landing on Nov. 15th, 2014.  Ramp fee is $7.00 now from what I heard. We will be having our end of year meeting after the tournament. We will be choosing the lakes for next year and voting on a couple of very important issues pertaining to following the rules outlined already, adjusting classic qualifying tournaments that have to be fished based on number of scheduled tournaments, and anything else you would like to bring up?

See You At The Ramp,

Mike

Floral City Chain 9-27-14

Floral City Chain

9-27-14

I would like to update to all the SPPB Members that Darrell is doing much better and from what he told me the tests came back negative on the possible stroke symptoms which caused his stay at the hospital. I have talked with him a few times and he is getting better every day and hopes to return soon. 7 teams showed up to compete on this September day. From the reports on how the fishing was going to be, not too many had good expectations on the fishing conditions. Only 4 teams weighed in fish and there were no limits. Guess the reports were correct. Oh yes the two teams tied for first both zeroed.

First Place with 4 bass weighing 10.43 lbs goes to Rob and Tony

Second Place with 2 bass weighing 5.65 lbs goes to Eric and Gary

Third Place with 2 bass weighing 3.42 lbs goes to Mike and Steve

Big Bass weighing 4.32 lbs goes to Rob and Tony

50/50 winner goes to Justin

Before the tournament the members brought up a couple of questions regarding the rules. We all understand that over the past few years we have been relaxed in rule # 7 and the classic qualifications. Also on the rule # 15 about the  weigh in time and location it was understood that we did not want every team standing in line at the scales. It was unanimous that we go back to following the rules effective immediately and re-wording some of the language. I have been working on some ideas and we will be discussing at the next tournament. It was also brought up that we are a team  membership  club, not an open tournament club. It is almost that time of year when we will be choosing next years lakes. We have been pulling lakes out of a hat recently, but someone mentioned about going back to nominating and voting on the lakes? Please think about these few objectives and we will discuss as a club the best way to implement.

The next tournament is October 25th on Lake Istokpoga.

Hope to see all at the ramp,

Mike

Lake Kissimmee 8-23-14

Lake Kissimmee

8-23-14

8 teams showed up to fish hopefully the last hot tournament of the year. I would like to welcome Matt’s new partner Jeff McMahon to SPPB. Rob had to fish with his sub George who has fished with us before. Rob is almost as bad as Matt for finding a partner/sub to fish with since his regular partner Tony is missing in action again. The fishing was tough once the sun came up and if you did not have any fish by then is was a tough bite to get. Everybody brought fish to the scales. Around lunch time Steve and I were fishing around the south lock and Keith and Justin decided to go through the lock. Steve and I thought about doing the same after a little while, but for some reason it was taking forever for the lock to open so we decided to head back into the lake. Then I got a call from Keith informing me the lock was broke and if there was any way we could help get one of them to the scales? I informed them we had already left and were in the lake near the north end and that I would call them back. Then Joe and Greg called saying they are having motor issues and if they would be able to put the boat on the trailer and wait for the weigh in. It was about 1:00 then. I said that would be fine and asked if they could help Keith and Justin, but they said their motor might not make it? They were already at the ramp area. I then called Keith and said were are trying to get our 5th bass and if we do we will go and help them. Keith then said there was someone with trailer helping get the and some other boats to the lake side. He called back shortly after and was in the lake side and all was ok. What a close call. It is truly a bad feeling when you are stuck due to any reason and trying to get back to the weigh in on time. After the weigh in we check Joe’s motor and one of his spark plugs broke in half which caused all the problems.

First Place with 5 bass weighing 13.28 lbs goes to Eric and Gary

Second Place with 5 bass weighing 11.04 lbs goes to Matt and Jeff

Third Place with 5 bass weighing 10.04 lbs goes to Mike and Steve

Big Bass weighing 6.20 lbs goes to John and Ken

50/50 winner is Joe. Total to date for the Classic is $202.00

Congrats To All !

Our next tournament is September 27th at Floral City Chain of Lakes at the public ramp.

Harris Chain 7-26-14

Harris Chain

7-26-14

We fished the Harris Chain instead of John’s Lake due to there were two other tournaments fishing John’s Lake. When there has to be a change due to any condition the board picks alternate lake that was one of the lakes in the hat when we pick the lakes for the year. July and August are the two hottest months of the year and it sure was hot today. The bass also thought it was too hot to cooperate and the bite was as tough as it gets. Only 5 bass were brought to the scales out of the 7 teams who braved the hot temperatures. 3 teams zeroed.

First Place with 1 bass weighing 2.99 lbs goes to Joe and Greg

Second Place with 2 bass weighing 2.34 lbs goes to Darrell and Jason

Third Place with 1 bass weighing 2.01 lbs goes to Keith and Justin

Big Bass weighing 2.99 lbs goes to Joe and Greg

50/50 winner goes to Greg.   Total To Date for the Classic Fund : $167.00

Congrats to all !

I want to review two issues which was discussed at the last tournament on Reedy. Number one, it was brought up a few times about the first rule on the rules page stating that no guides or professional tournament fishermen are allowed. The members we have to date that do fish the FLW, BFL, BASS or any other trails were members before they started fishing these trails and are Grandfathered in. But the club decided the rule was not necessary so we deleted. Second, the weigh in time is at 2:00 pm and in the rules it states that all teams must be at the scales at 2:00. We do not expect all teams to be standing in line holding their catches, but we do expect for all teams to be back at the ramp, dock, shoreline by 2:00 pm sharp. This does not mean within sight.

Our next tournament is Lake Kissimmee August 23rd, out of the Hwy. 60 ramp

Lake Reedy 6-28-14

Lake Reedy

June 28th, 2014

First I would like to welcome the new team of Mitch Webb and Pat Martin. My apologies if I spelled your names wrong. I am still trying to read Darrell’s hand writing. And Thank You to Keith for recommending them to our club. John had Bill fish as sub with him. Steve had his son-in-law Chris fish with him since I had a work function I had to go to and it sounds like I may be replaced from all the trash talking from Chris and Steve? From what I heard and reading the weigh in sheet it was a tough hot tournament for most.

First Place with 5 bass weighing 11.87 lbs goes to Scott and Dick

Second Place with 5 bass weighing 11.36 lbs goes to Joe and Greg

Third Place with 3 bass weighing 9.59 lbs goes to Eric and Garry

Big Bass weighing 6.85 lbs goes to Eric and Garry

50/50 winner goes to Keith.  Total 50/50 funds to date for our next classic is $135.00

Congrats to all!

Since I am late on the newsletter, I wanted to let everyone know we have to change the lake for our next tournament. Seems that there are two other clubs fishing John’s Lake too per email from John letting me know. We will be fishing Harris Chain out out Hickory Point July 26th instead. I will email all too.     www.flbasstournaments.com

Winter Haven Chain 5-31-14

Winter Haven Chain

5-31-14

I would like to welcome the new team of Troy Smith and his son Damian to SPPB. It is always nice to have a new team join our club, and it is great to see a father and son team fishing together, especially when the son is 10 years old. We explained in the morning that it is a rule that the new team cannot win the first tournament. Rob fished with team member Brent who is officially a member since team Rob and Tony maxed their sub quota already. We had eleven teams for this tournament and rumors had it it would be a tough tournament. The rain held off until after the weigh in which is always a good thing. 3 teams had limits and lots of little bass were caught. Just getting the keepers was tough.

First Place with 4 bass weighing 13.42 lbs goes to Troy and Damian……even though we told them they could not win?

Second Place with 5 bass weighing 11.33 lbs goes to Rob and Brent

Third Place with 5 bass weighing 11.09 lbs goes to Mike and Steve

Big Bass weighing 5.68 lbs goes to Troy and Damian

CONGRATS TO ALL!

50/50 raffle $40.00 winner goes to Gary To date we have $90.00 for the 2014 Classic.

Our next tournament is June 28th on Lake Reedy. We will have a brief meeting  before the tournament or possibly after if we run out of time before we launch.

This was the first tournament after the Classic. 9 teams showed up to fish one of our favorite lakes. We started the 50/50 raffle to help raise money for the 2014 Classic which will be March 28th and 29th 2015 too. Matt had sub Bill fish with him and Justin fished with Frank as his sub. Walk in Water was not as good this time compared to last year. 3 teams came in with limits. 26 bass total were weighed in.

2013 Classic Lake Okeechobee April 12th and 13th 2014

2013 Classic Tournament

April 12th and 13th 2014

First I would like to start by THANKING each and everyone, sponsors, team members for helping with making this tournament a great success! If it was not for your efforts we would not have raised as much money for the tournament as we always do. Plus we probably would not have had as much fun either. We raised more than $600.00 just for the raffle.  9 teams traveled down to the Big “O” for the 2013 Classic Tournament. At times I reflect on the past Classic Tournaments, good and bad moments and hope we would not encounter any bad moments this year. Then comes Gary and Eric who just had to trump the bad moments with Gary getting a hook through the same thumb as last year. And the urgent care clinic they went to remembered them from last year. Two years in a row, same thumb, same medical staff? Should have played lotto on Saturday. The only other minor bad things were Darrell’s engine not working at higher than 3800 rpm’s and the bent prop. Then Steve had to bend his prop. We kept Mike Touchton busy with his prop skills to get the blades back to somewhat normal. Then throw in the wind factor for all of us to drive and fish through. It was fun, exhausting, but we would not have it any other way.  Day one brought in 41 bass with total weight of 125.31 lbs. 7 limits brought to the scales. Day two we had 39 bass brought to the scales with total weight of 91.61 lbs.

Day 1 :  top three

First Place with 5 bass weighing 21.52 lbs goes to Malcolm and Josh

Second Place with 5 bass weighing 19.06 lbs goes to Keith and Justin

Third Place with 5 bass weighing 17.82 lbs goes to Eric and Gary

Big Bass Day 1 weighing 8.96 lbs goes to Eric and Gary

Day 2 : top three

First Place with 5 bass weighing 19.25 lbs goes to Keith and Justin

Second Place with 5 bass weighing 15.25 lbs goes to Mike and Steve

Third Place with 5 bass weighing 11.65 lbs goes to Eric and Gary

Big Bass weighing 9.71 lbs goes to Steve and Mike

Classic Winners:

First Place with total weight of 38.31 lbs goes to Keith and Justin

Second Place with total weight of 29.47 lbs goes to Eric and Garry

Third Place with total weight of 28.91 lbs goes to Malcolm and Josh

First Place paid $936.00  / Second Place paid $507.00 / Third Place paid $438.00 / Big Bass $90.00 each day.

Congrats To All! I have attached the weigh in sheets.

2013 Classic 4-12-14 Day 1

2013 Classic 4-13-14 Day 2

Here is a brief recap of meeting:

The 2014 Classic will be March 28th and 29th 2015 on Okeechobee out of Clewiston.

2015 tournament season will have 2 day tournament in September TBD ( St. John, Harris,E.Toho )

Missy ( Greg’s better half ) came up with a great idea to help raise more money for the Classic. Each tournament have a 50 / 50 raffle. I would like to start the next tournament if possible if we agree to do?

Our next tournament is April 26th on Walk in Water. Hope to see all at the ramp!

Lake Tarpon 3-22-14

Lake Tarpon

3-22-14

I would like to start off by welcoming the new team of Bob and John Johnson. And a big Thank You to Josh Acree for recommending SPPB to them. Please make sure you all introduce yourselves if you have not done so yet. If you are not sure who they are just listen for their boat. Eric had to fish with sub Brent Kirkendall and Rob had to have Brent Higgins officially join to be his permanent sub since the Phantom Tony is back to his old tricks of working too much. Rumor has it Tony will be back and fishing the Classic and the next few tournaments and Brent Higgins will have to find his own partner. As of date we have 12 teams who have joined for the 2014 season. 11 teams showed up to fish on this perfect spring day. Now the fishing could have been a lot better. 28 bass were brought to the scales with a total weight of 58.63 lbs. 3 teams had limits. Lots of undersized bass were caught.

First Place with 5 bass weighing 14.70 lbs goes to Darrell and Jason

Second Place with 5 bass weighing 8.64 lbs goes to Joe and Greg

Third Place with 5 bass weighing 7.56 lbs goes to Malcolm and Josh

Big Bass weighing 6.57 lbs goes to Darrell and Jason

Congrats to all!

I was very happy to see Darrell and Jason win and take big bass for a couple reasons. First, Darrell has had a few tough months and I would like to give my condolences to him and his family for the passing of his brother. It was nice for him to forget about what he has been through recently. Second, Jason is my son and it was nice to see him win. Guess he had a good teacher and now the student has become the master. Now if I could get him to share with me his secrets? On a safety note I would like to remind everyone that we have to be careful when we blast off at the start of the tournament. Please be careful when you take off and make sure nobody is in front of you. We may consider calling numbers in the future.

The 2013 Classic is fast approaching us. Remember there is no pre-fishing 7 days prior to Friday April 11th. Pre-fishing is Friday April 11th and the tournament is Saturday and Sunday, April 12th and 13th. Weigh in for Saturday is 4:00 and Sunday is 2:00. No trailering of boats prior to weigh in. Friday night we will have a pot luck dinner. Saturday night will be the raffle and meeting. Times TBD.

See You Down At The Big “O”

Butler Chain 2-22-14

Butler Chain

February 22nd, 2014

First I would like to welcome Jason Valentine and Chris Corlew to SPPB. And Thank You to Rob for recommending our club to them. We had 10 teams show up to fish on this nice Florida February day. Just had to dodge a brief thunderstorm in the early afternoon. Good thing there are lots of covered boat docks. We also had a few subs fish with us. Frank fished with Keith, Brent fished with Rob and Matt brought his girlfriend Alex to fish with him. I think Darrell has a new girlfriend too. He definitely forgot about the pain he was enduring on his leg. Its a wonder how he even caught any fish since he followed Matt and Alex all day long. Well some of the day anyhow. 5 teams had limits and there were lots of small bass caught by all. 41 bass were brought to the scales. Total weight of over 87 pounds.

First Place with 5 bass weighing 13.46 lbs goes to Scott and Dick

Second Place with 5 bass weighing 12.64 lbs goes to Keith and Frank

Third Place with 5 bass weighing 11.28 lbs goes to Eric and Gary

Big Bass weighing 5.45 lbs goes to Malcolm and Josh

Congrats to all!

As we get closer to the 2013 Classic I would like to remind everyone including the sponsors that it is never too early to start thinking of any donations for the raffle. Greg already has donated three items and I have two reels so far to throw into the pot.

The next tournament is March 22nd at Lake Tarpon out of Anderson Park.

June in Winter 1-25-14

Lake June in Winter

January 25th, 2014

Welcome to the start of the 2014 St. Pete Pro Bass 2014 tournament trail! It was nice to see all who showed up on this cold day to kick off the season. I would like to welcome John Fugate and Ken Stagner who just came on board to fish with us. Oh yes the phantom partner of Rob is up to his old tricks to start the season so Rob had to get his ringer sub George to fish with him. Darrell has a new old partner Jason who returned to fish this year. And the teams who could not make it this time we hope to see you next month. It sure was cold and the water was cold too. We all said the fishing was going to be tough. Lots of small fish were caught and the keeper size were hard to come by. Two teams out of seven had limits.

First place with 5 bass weighing 11.35 lbs goes to Keith and Justin

Second place with 5 bass weighing 10.69 lbs goes to Rob and George

Third place with 3 bass weighing 7.70 lbs goes to Joe and Greg

Big Bass weighing 3.52 lbs goes to Joe and Greg

Congrats to all!

The next tournament is on the Butler Chain February 22nd.

Lake Minneola November 9th 2013

Lake Minneola

11-9-13

What a finish for angler of the year! I believe this was the closest we have ever been on the last tournament of the year to see which team would take the honors. Mike and Steve were 6 points ahead of Darrell and Brandon. All Steve and Mike needed to do is not zero and hope that Darrell and Brandon did not get a big bass.Darrell had to get Jason Acree to fish as sub, Matt brought Bill as a sub. We all knew the bite was going to be tough. 5 teams braved the elements. Did I mention the bite was going to be tough? 3 teams zeroed out of 5 and yes Mike and Steve were one of those. Let the weigh in begin.

FIrst Place with 4 bass weighing 6.39 lbs goes to Darrell and Jason

Second PLace with 3 bass weighing 3.54lbs goes to Matt and Bill

Big Bass weighing 1.98 lbs goes to Darrell and Jason

So yes Mike and Steve’s  6 point lead changed to finishing in second and Darrell and Brandon taking top honors by 3 points. Darrell and Brandon finished with 322 points. Mike and Steve finished with 319.  Congrats to Darrell and Brandon for Angler of the Year! What a finish!

After the weigh in we picked the lakes for 2014 and they will be posted soon on the web site. It was brought to a motion to have a trash fish pot for 2014. This was voted no to have a trash fish pot. We also reviewed the payout schedule and all agreed to keep it the way we have been doing. Each team will pay an extra $10.00 to payout either a second place or a third place depending on the number of teams. We will be looking into the payout chart during the off season to see if there is another way of adjusting payout based on the number of teams.

Wishing each and everyone of you and your families a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

West Lake Toho October 26th, 2013

West Lake Toho

October 26th, 2013

7 teams showed up on this nice fall weather day. Gary and Tony fished together in the same boat since there team mates had better things to do. Malcolm fished with sub Frank Mackin. What a picture perfect day we had today. The first front came through earlier in the week and by Saturday the wind had calmed down and the temperature was perfect. Too bad the fishing was a little tough. Probably due to the front? There were only two teams with limits.

First Place with 5 bass weighing 19.40 lbs goes to Mike and Steve

Second Place with 5 bass weighing 9.42 lbs goes to Malcolm and Frank

Third Place with 3 bass weighing 5.19 lbs goes to Darrell and Brandon

Big Bass weighing 5.65 lbs goes to Mike and Steve

We are down to one tournament left for the 2013 season. The next and last tournament is November 9th on Lake Minneola. Clermont Boat Ramp, 930 W. Minneola Ave. 34711. There is a $5.00 ramp fee. We will have our meeting too to decide on next years lakes, etc. Steve has been discussing with the members on the best way to pick the lakes. If there is anything else you want to bring up for discussion and or a vote this is the time to do it.

Winter Haven Chain September 28th, 2013

Winter Haven Chain

9-28-13

OK, enough already! I know I am behind schedule to get updates and newsletters done. LOL. I was talking with Darrell and Keith and they reminded me to get my act together or else? Else sounds pretty good right now…LOL again.

I do apologize for the delays and will get caught up. After this tournament there are 2 tournaments left. 7 teams fished the Winter Haven Chain and what a nice day we had. We should be done with the dog days of hot summer and the weather was nice today. Josh fished with his brother Jason as his sub. Two teams brought in limits. There was plenty of water and no issues getting to all the lakes. Now for the pre-fish team of Rob and Tony who have the great life of being able to fish whenever. We were all a little nervous they were on fish? We tried to let them go first so we could follow, but they did not give in to our plan. And guess what? They had one small keeper and decided not to weigh in. Good thing we did not follow.

First Place with 4 bass weighing 12.22 lbs goes to Joe and Greg

Second Place with 5 bass weighing 10.16 lbs goes to Josh and Jason

Third Place with 5 bass weighing 8.27 lbs goes to Mike and Steve

Big Bass weighing 5.14 lbs goes to Scott and Dick

Congrats to all!

The AOTY race just got tighter too! Only one point behind is second place and 5 points behind is third with two tournaments left. Next tournament is West Toho out of South Port on October 26th. Just a reminder at the last tournament we will have meeting either before we launch or after to discuss any objectives you want to discuss and choose the lakes for the 2014 season. The last two years we have drawn the lakes out of a hat. This also is up for a vote to either keep this system or change to another way? We also have ammended our payout by each team contributing an extra $10.00 to payout a second place if there are under 9 teams. I think this has been accepted and we may look into keeping this in place, even if there is between 9 and 13 teams to have a third place payout? Again this is just a thought. Now is the time to start thinking about possible changes, etc for our meeting at the last tournament.

I would like to mention that Keith Burden who has been a member for a long time has his new business Reel Deal Outdoors up and running, and his shop looks GREAT ! Please remember if you need any reel or rod repairs, trolling motor service, or any hard to find tackle you need, please call Keith @ 727-510-9168 cell or 727-821-7335 shop. He will offer discounts to all SPPB members. He has been open for almost 1 year now going through the objectives of opening and then moving to a better location and is establishing a growing customer base.

See You At The Next Tournament

Lake Arbuckle August 24th, 2013

Lake Arbuckle

August 24th, 2013

Thank You Darrell for reminding me the August newsletter was not done and that I have been slacking on my duties. I will try to get caught up on all since the 2013 is getting close to being over.

7 teams showed up to fish Lake Arbuckle. I do not think SPPB has ever fished this lake? What a nice little lake. Too bad the bite was not as nice as the lake looked. Lake Rousseau 7-27-13

Lake Rousseau

7-27-13

Rumor had it that this tournament was going to be tough due to all the weed spraying and all the rain we have been getting, but I do not think anybody thought it would be as tough as it was. The teams that were able to pre-fish the weeks before reported lots of small bass being caught with a few nice ones as well. Mike and Matt pre-fished Thursday and Friday before the tournament and told us all it was not good at all. The hydrilla and lily pads were covered with this slim from the spraying and it was tough to fish without getting slim all over your bait. Out of 7 teams only 7 bass were brought to the scales. Lots of little bass were caught, but the keeper bass was hard to find. We had two subs fish with us. George fished with Rob and Tommy fished with Rick.

First Place with 3 bass weighing 7.23 lbs goes to Eric and Gary

Second PLace with 2 bass weighing 5.53 lbs goes to Mike and Steve

Third Place with 1 bass weighing 2.55 lbs goes to Rick and Tommy

Big Bass weighing 2.88 lbs goes to Mike and Steve

Next tournament is August 24th at Lake Arbuckle. The ramp is at Lake Arbuckle Campground.

2600 Lake Arbuckle Rd, Frostproof, FL 33843. Steve called and we will confirm what time the gate opens.

Harris Chain 6-22-13

Harris Chain

6-22-13

OK, yes I know it has been too long for the newsletter to get done and I apologize! With all the news about the lakes being too low and some of the ramps being closed we had a nice turn out for this tournament. The lake was a little low, but we had no issues. Except how the water looked. It was like chocolate milk in most areas and the water was hot. 9 teams showed up and off we went. Darrell had his better half fish with him since Brandon was on a cruise. Shortly after Darrell and Kim were fishing Darrell decided it would be a good idea to get his line caught in his trolling motor. Then he decided it was a good idea to drop his trolling motore prop in the water. By now he was thinking Kim was bad luck, but they kept on fishing. 4 teams had limits. 28 bass total were brought to the scales. Not too bad for the conditions we had. Turns out Darrell’s better half was good luck after all.

First Place with bass bass weighing 18.26 lbs goes to Malcolm and Josh

Second Place with 5 bass weighing 14.17 lbs goes to Darrell and Kim

Third Place with 5 bass weighing 12.20 lbs goes to Dick and Scott

Big Bass weighing 9.31 lbs goes to Malcolm and Josh

Congrats To All!

It was mentioned that since we pay an extra $10.00 per team for a second place payout if there is 8 teams or less why couldn’t we also do if between 9 teams and 12 teams to pay out for third?

Next tournament is on Lake Rousseau launching at the Dunnellon ramp off Hwy 41 on July 27th

Lake Walk in Water 5-25-13

Lake Walk in Water

5-25-13

9 teams were scheduled to show up and fish, but leave it to Kill Swith Tony who had a bearing and hub go out on the way to the tournament we only had 8. Rob who was at the ramp went to help Tony and thought this was a sign for him  he should go to his daughters music recital instead of fishing. Probably a good decision. Tony did show up and fished for fun. Then on the way home Tony’s spare tire had a blowout. Just was not his day. Steve’s water impellor decided it was not going to work so we had a long day of fishing and getting beat up from the waves and wind. Rick fished with sub Scott Card on this windy day. The wind was blowing pretty hard as we waited for safe light. Soon after we headed out to get to our spots the wind calmed down, but did not last too long. The wind picked up speed and blew the rest of the day. It was tough to stay on the spots and the teams who did battle the wind and waves caught some nice limits.

First Place with 5 bass weighing 16.93 lbs goes to Malcolm and Josh

Second Place with 5 bass weighing 16.61 lbs goes to Joe and Greg

Third Place with 5 bass weighing 16.26 lbs goes to Scott and Dick

Big Bass weighing 7.93 lbs goes to Scott and Dick

Congrats to all!

The next tournament is on the Harris Chain. We will check Hickory Point ramp conditions before. Water level at the ramp was reported to be low?  The tournament in July was picked to be Rousseau. Some members said they would not go due to the stumps. All of us are concerned about not damaging our boats and I would like to hear from everybody what their thoughts are. We will talk more about it at the next tournament.
