West Lake Toho 9-22-18

West Lake Toho

9-22-18

Wow how a lake can change in over a year or less! The matted hydrilla was crazy, especially if you did not know where the major mats were at. But still plenty of fish were caught. 8 limits were weighed in and we found out who the fisherman is for team Darrell and Jason. Darrell fished solo and kept his team in the running for AOTY and has jumped into first place by 2 points. It was nice to see Chuck and Bonnie back to fish with us. Hope his schedule allows more time to fish with us.

First Place with 5 bass weighing 13.70 lbs goes to Gary and Richard

Second Place with 5 bass 12.01 lbs goes to Godwin and Keith

Third Place with 5 bass weighing 10.94 lbs goes to George and Rob

Big Bass weighing 5.85 lbs goes to George and Rob

50/50 winner goes to Mike

Next tournament is Lake Arbukle 10-27-18

Lake Marion 8-25-18

Lake Marion

8-25-18

Here are a few of the comments I heard before, during and after the tournament. What a mud hole of a lake. Who picked this mud hole? Hope we never fish this lake again. My guess is that most of the smaller lakes, and maybe even some of the larger lakes have tough conditions due to the recent weather. At least it did not rain during the tournament. Just on the way home and it cleaned some of the slime off the boats. Then afterwards it was really entertaining to watch two grumpy old fishermen try to get their boat on the trailer correctly. Priceless! We had 12 teams show up on hopefully the last hot day of the year to test their skills and 7 teams brought in limits.

First Place with 5 bass weighing 11.33 lbs goes to Mike and Steve.

Second Place with 5 bass weighing 9.51 lbs goes to Darrell and Jason

Third Place with 5 bass weighing 8.86 lbs goes to Bart and Justin

Big Bass weighing 3.70 lbs goes to Rob

50/50 winner is Godwin

Congrats to all!

Next tournament is September 22nd on West Toho  launching out of Southport.

As we get closer to the end of the year I wanted to remind all teams to qualify for the 2018 Classic at least 8 tournaments had to fished.

To date 7 teams have qualified and 3 teams have fished 6 tournaments with 3 tournaments left.

See you at the ramp.

Mike

The 2018 Classic will be March 9th and 10th, 2019 on the Big “O” launching out of Clewiston.

Lake Istokpoga 5-19-18

Lake Istokpoga

5-19-18

I am starting to think Istokpoga is cursed for SPPB? The so called great lake has not been so great to us the last few times we have fished. And seems like the weather has also cursed us when we fish. With rain and storms passing through all week prior, it sure did make fishing a challenge for us all. Then the mechanical issues Godwin and Greg had with only having a trolling motor to use, then Jason and Justin having motor issues at the end of the tournament in which Steve and I had to bring their fish in to weigh, then go back and tow them in. And it rained on and off most of the day. Oh well, still better than working and we all had to adjust to the elements at hand. Only 4 teams out of 11 brought in limits.

First Place with 5 bass weighing 8.74 lbs goes to Troy and Adam

Second Place with 5 bass weighing 7.71 lbs goes to Mike and Steve

Third Place with 5 bass weighing 7.62 lbs goes to Dick and Scott

Big Bass weighing 2.49 lbs goes to Mike and Steve

50/50 raffle winner goes to Ken

Congrats to all!

I would like to welcome the new team of Steve and Johnny who showed up just in time to join, launch and blast off with the rest of us. Too bad they had to leave early, so when you see them next tournament please introduce yourselves and thank you Adam for letting them know about our club. We had 11 teams fish on this nice spring day and again lots of bass were caught with 8 teams weighing in limits. Would have been 9 teams but one of John’s and Ken’s bass jumped out when they were transferring into their weigh bag.

Butler Chain 3-24-18

Butler Chain

3-24-18

On behalf of the entire club I would like to wish Joe a speedy recovery and continued good health!

Joe was not feeling good after he and Greg showed up to fish. They decided to go back home. Joe went to the emergency room where they determined he had a heart attack and had to have a quintuple bypass. He is home now and getting better and hope to see him soon. Not sure how long he will be sidelined, but knowing him it will not be too long.

I would like to welcome back to the club Matt Sparks and Mike Touchton, and would like to welcome the new team of Dave Butler and William Earnest. We had a great turnout with 14 teams fishing on this nice spring day. Seems everyone was able to catch fish, in fact 10 teams had limit. The only down side to this chain of lakes is the boat ramp and parking, and leaving your headlights on and not having a good key to get in the truck. Just ask Chuck and Bonnie….lol. I would like to thank Charles, Brandy, Godwin, Steve and Jason for staying and helping them get their boat out of the water and waiting till AAA came to rescue them. It was quite a long day to say the least.

First Place with 5 bass weighing 18.80 lbs goes to Jason and Darrell…………………..Jason had a PB tournament.

Second Place with 5 bass weighing 13.04 lbs goes to Dave and William

Third Place with 5 bass weighing 11.12 lbs goes to Steve and Mike

Big Bass weighing 8.55 lbs goes to Jason………………Also his PB

50/50 goes to Brandy

Lake Tarpon 2-24-18

Lake Tarpon

2-24-18

Wow, seems like it has been 2 weeks since we fished. Oh yeah it was. Some of us are still feeling the effects of The Classic and most were able to find a way to fish. Joe and Greg however were not able to get their boat repair done so they could not fish and Charles and Brandy were able to use another boat to fish. I would like to welcome back to our club Keith and Godwin and Eric and Gary ( Tom subbed for Gary ) We also had the chance to meet Darrell’s son Drew who fished as sub with Darrell. And go figure Lake Tarpon is where Godwin lives and he would not share his spots with any of us. 4 teams out of 12 had limit.

First Place with 5 bass weighing 14.18 lbs goes to Godwin and Keith

Second Place with 5 bass weighing 9.89 lbs goes to Mike and Steve

Third Place with 5 bass weighing 8.49 lbs goes to Darrell and Drew

Big Bass weighing 7.01 lbs goes to Godwin and Keith

50/50 winner goes to to Ken

Next tournament is March 24th on Butler Chain launching out of RD Keene Park. Please remember the park usually is open in time and the ramp

is not the most user friendly ramp. Best to get there a little early and daylight savings is March 11th. So Steve please change all your clocks.

2017 Classic

2017 Classic Lake Okeechobee

February 10th and 11th, 2018

Another Classic has come and gone and for a couple of teams the so called curse of the Big “O” lives on. We all have great hopes of being able to fish and catch on this awesome lake. Do not think anybody was prepared for the aftermath of last years hurricane as to how much has changed since our last classic. Seems like over the past years some team or member has paid the price to the fishing gods and humbled all of us at some point. Now add a major tournament to fishing on Saturday and we had to make a change on our launch site for the first day, and lots of muddy water and all the areas we knew were not there anymore made it quite interesting to say the least. Just when we thought it could not get any worse, Joe and Greg had a little explosion in Joe’s boat. Joe tried to jump his cranking battery and somehow shorted and caused a spark and his battery blew up. It was scary just hearing and seeing all the smoke then realizing 4 members were close buy helping, then watching them splash water on themselves to clean off the battery acid. Once we made sure there were no major injuries we helped put their boat back on the trailer with hopes they could get repairs done and get back to the lake. After checking in a little later, they could not get repaired and would not be able to fish. Then I got a rattle trap hook in my thumb trying to get a bass off the hook and had the pleasure of yanking the hook out. Shortly after my incident Steve got a rattle trap hook stuck in his leg which had to be yanked out. I will admit I laughed watching him get the hook out and told him I was just laughing because I knew how much it hurt to do. No pain no gain as they say. Crazy how a bass can just spit out a rattle trap without getting a hook in its mouth? Guess around 1:00 pm I received a call from Charles informing me his motor was down and they would need help getting back. They were on the Caloosahatchee Canal approx. 5-10 miles past the Moore Haven lock. I informed them somehow we would make sure they got back, and the lock closes at 4:30. I called a few other teams. Troy and Adam happened to be near the lock on the lake side and they said they would help. I informed both the teams to get through the lock and get to weigh in, then we would go pick Charles up at the Moore Haven ramp. I would like to thank Troy and Adam for their efforts in helping Charles and Brandy get back safely and all were able to weigh in. You would think at this time nothing else could go wrong…….not! I drove Charles truck back to load his boat and then headed back to Clewiston. After a brief stop at store, someone ( Charles ) forgot to close the tailgate and when we turned left at intersection all the stuff fell out of the truck right in the middle of intersection. UGH! With lots of help from strangers  we were able to load everything back in, except for some miller light, which seemed to disappear? Joe decided to head back since there was no way for his boat to get repaired. Greg and Missy stayed to enjoy the rest of the weekend as best as he could anyway. During our meeting Bonnie asked if there was a way Greg could fish with Chuck on Sunday. Guess she had enough of the Big “O” or maybe it was Chuck……lol. We explained they could fish together, but as separate teams. Both Greg and Bonnie were happy. Congats to Greg and Joe for winning the 2017 Anglers of the Year! Greg took all the credit since Joe was not able to be there. During our meeting we reviewed the Classic weigh in times and we will keep Saturday weigh in at 3:00 and Sunday at 2:00. Also brought up was the idea for all members to have phone numbers for all in case of an emergency while out on the lakes. I know all have mine, but in the situation last year on Kissimmee where I did not hear my phone when Troy and Adam were broke down they could have called other members for help. Missy started a spreadsheet and I will print out and or email to all.  The 2018 Classic will me the second Weekend of March 2019. March 9th and 1oth, 2019. We also will watch for any major tournaments, but as of now there are none booked. Option will be the 4th weekend of March. Now on to the raffle drawings. First I would like to thank all the sponsors, members for all their help with both donations and raffle ticket purchases. We raised $520.00 which 100% goes to the Classic Payout.

Sunday went much better and Charles and Brandy fished close by with using their trolling motor for as long as they could stand, then decided it was time to throw the towel in and head home. The winds really kicked up made fishing even tougher. But no major issues that I heard of.

First Place with a two day total 10 bass weighing 26.27 lbs goes to Steve and Mike

Second Place with a two day total 10 bass weighing 16.35 lbs goes to Dick and Scott

Third Place with a two day total 10 bass weighing 16.07 lbs goes to Darrell and Jason

Big Bass both days goes to Steve and Mike. 3.79 lb and 4.17 lb.

2017 Classic 2-10-18 and 2-11-18

Hope to see all at next scheduled 2018 tournament on Lake Tarpon, February 24th, at Anderson Park.

Winter Haven Chain

1-27-18

Seems like it has been forever since we have fished, at least for Steve and I, Darrell and Jason. It was nice to start the 2018 season without freezing temperatures we have had so far this winter. We had 11 teams for the first tournament and was nice to see everyone. This year we started allowing 12 inch minimum bass, not 11.75 inch Dick and Scott…….lol. Would also like to welcome back to our club John and Ken.

Water was quite cold still and the fishing was a little tough and the wind really picked up throughout the day. 36 total bass were weighed in with only 3 limits weighed in.

First Place with 5 bass weighing 13.34lbs goes to Mike and Steve

Second Place with 3 bass weighing 10.63lbs goes to Rob and George

Third Place with 5 bass weighing 10.34lbs goes to Darrell and Jason

Big Bass weighing 7.66lbs goes to George and Rob

50/50 raffle winner goes to John

Congrats to all!

2017 Year End Post

St. Pete Pro Bass

2017

I would like to wish each team a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

I am sure we are all looking forward to the 2018 schedule and look forward to seeing everyone on January 27th, 2018. There were rumors of the ramp we are using being closed in near future? I have called the City of Winter Haven Parks Dept. and they informed me they have not heard of William G. Roe Park closing? If anyone has more info please let me know.

Now I would like to congratulate Joe and Greg for winning Anglers of the Year for 2017. This is their second time winning. Who will be next in 2018?

There are 11 teams who have qualified for the 2017 Classic. Teams are  # 1 / #2 / #3 / #4 / #5 / #7 / #8 / #9 / #10 / #13 / #15.  I would like to remind all the teams who will be fishing the Classic, now is the time to start thinking of your donations to help with the raffle we will have. I will be talking with a few of our sponsors too to help. 100% of the raffle event goes towards the Classic Payout.

I now would like to thank Steve, Darrell and Jason for all they do! Seems like we have been doing this for a long time? Oh wait, we have been…..lol. And thanks to all our members, old and new. We have a great club.

See You Next Year!

Lake Reedy 9-23-17

Lake Reedy

9-23-17

Thanks Irma!

As mush as we always seem to need the rain and water levels to be normal Hurricane Irma came through the entire state of Florida and created havoc on us all. From the reports I heard prior to the tournament and after the tournament the lake was way high and caused the bass to not cooperate at all. Hope by the next tournament things get back to normal? I am sure all the lakes are going through this transition period. No limits were caught and the most any team weighed in was 4 bass.

First Place with 3 bass weighing 10.53lbs goes to Joe and Greg

Second Place with 3 bass weighing 7.34lbs goes to Gary and Richard

Third Place with 4 bass weighing 6.63lbs goes to Chuck and Bonnie

We did not have a 50/50 raffle but hope we will make it up on the next tournament!

Lake Kissimmee 6-24-17

Lake Kissimmee

6-24-17

Welcome to the dog days of summer! It will only get hotter too the next couple of months. Seems like every team was excited to fish Kissimmee after the small lake we fished last month. With the recent rains there was enough water to launch out of Camp Mack. Just wish they would remove that rock pile behind the one ramp. Or at least mark it with a buoy. And they are persistent with weigh in being at the stage area too. Overall they were really nice and accommodating. I also would like to welcome the new team of Gary and Richard. Also was nice to see Godwin today who fished with Matt. Maybe he will fill in as needed with Matt. Godwin has been with the club for a long time and shared some sad news with  us, Mike Taylor who also was a long time member passed away a little while ago. For those who new him he was the nicest person-friend-fisherman around. He will be missed. And seems like the new teams are giving everyone some good competition too. With Kissimmee being one of the favorite lakes to fish for most, turned out to be quite tough for most. Water was dirty and not moving and had most teams baffled on finding the pattern. Only 3 limits were weighed in. And if you thought you had a rough day, just talk to Troy and Adam. Their boat broke down and Steve and I did not see or hear them call. They were towed in by someone else who was very generous to bring them all the way from just north of Brahma Island. We never want to have any team stranded and will make sure we do everything to make sure no team is stranded or broken down out on the water or on the highway. Please make sure you all have at least two or three teams contact info so we can communicate accordingly. If everyone agrees I can create a contact list and hand out to each team. Even if you decide to leave early please let someone know.

First Place with 5 bass weighing 20.14 lbs goes to Gary and Richard

Second Place with 5 bass weighing 11.50 lbs goes to Charles and Brandy

Third Place with 5 bass weighing 10.52 lbs goes to Scott and Mike

Big Bass weighing 7.99 lbs goes to Gary and Richard

Congrats to all!

Eagle Lake 5-20-17

Eagle Lake

5-20-17

This I believe is the second or third time SPPB has fished Eagle Lake. May be the last time? This is a small lake and usually very clear lake, but with the recent winds, etc the water was really dirty. It was nice to have Keith come back and join SPPB. Keith is a long timer with SPPB and a great supporter of our club with his business Reel Deal Outdoors. His partner is Pat. Please make sure you introduce yourselves when you get a chance. We had 14 teams try their luck on this lake and it sure was a tough day for most. Only 5 limits and lots of small bass were caught.

Second place with 4 bass weighing 9.51 lbs goes to Josh and Mark

Crooked Lake

4-22-17

First I would like to welcome two new teams and one returning team from last year. Chuck and Bonnie Wilkerson, Scott Scarboro and Mike Blocher. Charles Pearson and Brandy Byrum who are returning from last year. It was nice meeting the new teams and seeing Charles and Brandy come back. We had 13 teams show up to fish and most of us all caught bass, just tough getting the big bite with lots of smaller bass being caught throughout the day. 4 teams had limits. A total of 39 bass were weighed in with total weight of 81.99 lbs. These are part of the numbers I have to submit to the FWC after report. Thanks to the wind blowing a different way which kept the smoke from Indian Lake Estates away from us. I know Darrell and Jason had a little hiccup first thing in the morning when we blasted off. They thought they spun their prop. Turns out Darrell forgot to take off the transom saver. Glad it was not too bad. Funny story with Steve and I, while fishing I heard Steve yell and jump down from the polling platform. I thought he had a record bass on. Turns out he was screaming like a little girl because a cottonmouth was trying to get in the boat. He is really scared of snakes. Too Funny!

First Place with 5 bass weighing 14.28 lbs goes to Dick and Scott

Second Place with 5 bass weighing 12.88 lbs goes to Scott and Mike

Third Place with 5 bass weighing 12.57 lbs goes to Joe and Greg

Big Bass weighing 5.83 lbs goes to Dick and Scott

50/50 winner goes to Scott S.

Congrats to all!

Butler Chain 3-25-17

Butler Chain

3-25-17

It has been way too long since we have fished since our first tournament back in January. Glad we voted next year to fish a regular tournament in the month we fish classic. I would like to welcome the team of Justin and Dalton to SPPB. Justin has fished with us before and has joined forces with his new partner. Glad to have them in our club! Matt had the pleasure of fishing with his fiance as his sub and Randy had his Dad fish with him as his sub. Rob was out of town and his partner Terry decided to fish alone out of his kayak. That is determination at its best and they definitely want to qualify for the classic. From the reports of teams that pre-fished it was going to be tough. Only 4 teams brought in limits and lots of small bass were caught.

First Place with 5 bass weighing 11.22 lbs goes to Darrell and Jason

Second Place with 5 bass weighing 9.69 lbs goes to Josh and Mark

Third Place with 5 bass weighing 9.13 lbs goes to Joe and Greg

Big Bass weighing 5.63 lbs goes to Jason and Darrell

Congrats To All!

Now I would like to let all members know that I received a phone call during the tournament that a team was spotted driving their boat on plain without their PFD’s on. I immediately called the team and explained to them we all must wear while on plain. They explained that they were just motoring up to drift down where they were fishing, but acknowledged they made a mistake and did not think at the time they needed since they were not going very fast or very far. They reassured me they would wear. Over the years I have had to remind other teams about some of the basic rules and it should be about safety, courtesy and professionalism of each and every member. So as a reminder to all please wear your PFD’s while on plain and be courteous and professional to all members.

Our next tournament is on Crooked Lake, April 22nd out of Bob’s Landing. Remember they have a ramp fee.

2016 Classic Tournament

Lake Okeechobee 2016 Classic

2-18-17 and 2-19-17

Another Classic has come and gone. Now we have to wait and qualify for the next Classic which will be February 10th and 11th 2018 on the Big “O”. The weather was actually pretty good this year. Water levels were down and a lot of chocolate colored water to be found. Lots of bass biting, but trying to get the big bass was tough as can be. Quite a few missed big bass opportunities from what I heard. But that is fishing and not catching as they say.

I want to thank all of our great members who helped make our Classic a great success, and all of the sponsors who donated items along with the members who also donated and purchased raffle tickets to help raise money for our tournament. We raised a total of $755.00 just from the raffle which goes 100% to the winners. First place paid $1132.00, Second place was $631.00 and third place was $559.00. Not too bad for our club! I have attached the entire results below.

First Place with 10 bass weighing 27.50 lbs goes to Jason and Darrell

Second Place with 10 bass weighing 23.86 lbs goes to Mike and Steve

Third Place with 9 bass weighing 20.58 lbs goes to Josh and Mark

Big Bass day 1 weighing 5.64 lbs goes to Troy and Adam

Big Bass day 2 weighing 4.89 lbs goes to Mike and Matt

Congrats to all the winners!

Here is a recap from the meeting and what we discussed and voted on. It is really nice when we can get together and have an open forum to discuss what we think is important and try to make our club better.

Classic Weigh In Times: we discussed on keeping the Saturday weigh in at 3:00 and possibly changing Sunday weigh in time to 1:00? Josh then made a great point that we are fishing on one of if not the best lake and we should not be taking away fishing time. We all agreed to that and decided to keep it the same. Saturday is 3:00 and Sunday is 2:00.

12″ Limit: discussed for a while and was brought to a vote that 12″ fish will be allowed starting next year.

2018 season: was decided to have 11 tournaments.

50/50 Raffle: idea was proposed that an extra $10.00 be added for tournament fees and the extra $10.00 would give each team two raffle tickets with option for any member to purchase more. For example if we averaged 10 teams per tournament with 10 tournaments we could raise $500.00 for our Classic. We decided to discuss at our meeting at the end of the year.

Lake June in Winter 1-28-17

Lake June in Winter

1-28-17

The first tournament of the 2017 is over and it was nice seeing everyone who showed up. I would like to welcome the new team of Randy and Tommy. We are glad to have the both of you join our club. Now who did Matt and Mike piss off during the tournament? From what I heard there is a grumpy dude who lives on the lake and does not like anyone fishing around his dock behind his house. Guess Matt also fished there the weekend before too which really pissed him off when they fished around his dock again. Must be the same dude who Steve and I ran into a few years ago and we got into a verbal confrontation. He thinks he owns the water in the lake? Hope we never get like that if we have the chance to live on a lake and have a dock. Can’t wait to hear all about it from Matt and Mike. This dude put little notes on all the vehicles saying that Matt and Mike are cheaters. Good thing they did not weigh in a big sack of bass……lol.

First Place with 5 bass weighing 16.20 lbs goes to Dick and Scott

Second Place with 5 bass weighing 9.96 lbs goes to Joe and Greg

Third Place with 5 bass weighing 9.84 lbs goes to Mike and Steve

Big Bass weighing 4.46 lbs goes to Rob and Terry

Lake Arbuckle 11-19-16

Lake Arbuckle

11-19-16

The 2016 tournament season has come to a close. First I would like to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! I look forward to seeing everyone in 2017. I think the bass on Lake Arbuckle were already on a holiday break because they sure were not cooperating on this Saturday. There were no limits weighed in the most any team had was 4 bass. That is fishing at times and not enough catching keeper bass. Helps me appreciate the good days we have on the lakes.

First Place with 3 bass weighing 10.25 lbs goes to Troy and Jake

Second Place with 3 bass weighing 6.30 lbs goes to Rob and George

Third Place with 4 bass weighing 6.17 lbs goes to Darrell and Jason

Big Bass weighing 6.30 lbs goes to Troy and Jake

50/50 raffle goes to Troy

2016 Angler of the Year goes to Mike and Steve

CONGRATS TO ALL!!!

After the weigh in we had our end of season meeting to choose the lakes for 2017. We discussed the idea of having two tournaments in the month of February when we have our 2016 Classic. It was voted to only fish the Classic in February. There will only be 10 tournaments plus the 2016 Classic. We also discussed the 50/50 raffle which has generated quite a bit for our Classic payouts plus the winners get 50%. We raised less this year then we did last year and wanted to make sure everyone still wants to have the raffle each tournament. We all voted to keep and it was mentioned that we need more participation from all members. We had 13 teams join in 2016 and 9 teams have qualified to fish the 2016 Classic. Boat #6 / #9 /#10 / #11 did not qualify. Remember there is no pre-fishing 7 days prior Friday February 17th. Pre-fishing is permitted on Friday February 17th. Tournament days are Saturday February 18th and Sunday February 19th. 3:00 pm weigh in on Saturday and 2:00 pm weigh in on Sunday.

I would like to also thank Steve, Darrell and Jason for all they do each tournament!

See You Next Year,

Mike
